Alternative solutions to reduce queuing to the Spa-Francorchamps GrandPrix

Spa-Francorchamps – 08/28/2021 - The weather conditions and the heavy rain that has been falling since Friday are rapidly deteriorating the state of some of the car parks around the circuit. Alternative car parks will be opened for spectators of the Grand Prix this Sunday.

Belgian GP

Numerous car parks are organised in the meadows around the circuit for spectators of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The rain of the last few days and the passage of vehicles are quickly transforming these meadows into mud fields. This Saturday, problems with the accessibility of some car parks caused queues, mainly on the A27-E42 motorway between exits 10 Francorchamps and 11 Malmedy. The section of the A25-E25 motorway closed at Liège due to the bad weather in mid-July also diverted many motorists via the A27-E42, resulting in unusually long queues.

Parking Belgian GP

On Sunday, the day of the Formula 1 Grand Prix, 75,000 people will once again be expected around the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. To reduce queues and facilitate access to the circuit, alternative solutions will be put in place:

  • Some car parks remained closed on Saturday to be preserved for Sunday and will therefore be accessible.
  • Additional car parks (+/- 8000 spaces) will be opened in each access zone (yellow, red and green) to replace the car parks that have become impassable. These car parks will be used as soon as the usual accessible car parks are full.
  • As they are further away from the circuit entrances, free shuttle buses will be organised continuously to bring spectators to the circuit entrances from 7.00 am to 2.00 pm and back to the car parks from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
  • Police and stewards will guide cars to the car parks at the motorway exits.
  • Motorists who have prepaid for parking will have their cards valid even if they are directed to a different car park than the one they originally intended.

Spectators are invited to arrive very early - from 6am - on Sunday to ease traffic and limit queues. In all cases, it is imperative to follow the instructions of the police and stewards. Information and advice will be broadcast by the Federal Police in real time on Twitter @BelPoliceEvent and by the organiser on its Facebook page: Spa Grand Prix and on its website www.spagrandprix.com
